D&D turned me into a nerd; without Gygax and Arneson my life would have been a lot different. Without D&D, would there ever have been an RPG explosion? How would that have changed computer games? Movies? The comedy of Stephen Colbert? Here's hoping that before he died he was able to take a step back and appreciate the impact he had on popular culture.

Hmm. I'm the instructor who was the source of the information for gshonk. Gshonk's post is in the spirit of reaching out to Dave, whom is our friend. It has come to my attention that Dave's health is actually heading in the correct direction after all and is not nearly has bad as made out in gshonk's post. And in all actuality, Dave Arneson is in the best health he has been in for years. I guess the passing of Gary has made us all take a look at the people who mean something to us. Dave should be headed home soon and I look foward to enjoying his company for years to come.

The report of Dave Arneson's terminal cancer is incomplete and inaccurate. It is very irresponsible to be publicly posting a second hand report like this.

Another sad reminder for the transience of individual human existence and an indicator for how important it is to document and archive the game industry. I think that the UT initiative is a great step forward.

It me hard to Warren. What hit me even harder was that night I was talking to one of my teachers who teaches a class here at Full Sail with Dave Arneson, and he told me that Dave has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Because his already poor health Dave will not be able to undergo chemotherapy. They are giving him about a year to live. It was a hard day for me because I consider Dave to be a teacher and a friend that on top of the death of Gary just made it ruff.
